How to Set Up WinEye Camera on a Window
Frequently Asked Question
1. Will I get glare or reflections at night since it’s behind glass?
Absolutely not. This was the #1 problem we engineered WinEye to solve. It does not use traditional Infrared (IR) LEDs, which cause reflections. Instead, it features our proprietary DarkVision™ image enhancement technology and custom window glare shield. This system uses a highly sensitive image sensor and advanced software algorithms to capture clear, full-color footage in extremely low light. You’ll see what’s happening outside, not a reflection of your living room.
2. How does it stick to the window? Will it fall off? Is it reusable?
WinEye uses our custom-engineered reusable adhesive bracket. This is not a simple suction cup. The special gel material creates a powerful, secure bond on any smooth glass surface, but it’s designed to peel off easily without leaving any residue. If it ever gets dusty, simply rinse the adhesive pad with clean water, let it air dry, and its stickiness will be fully restored to its original strength. It’s secure and renter-friendly.
3. How is the camera powered? Do I need to change batteries?
WinEye is designed for 24/7, uninterrupted security. It is powered by the included 10ft (3m) slim USB-C cable, which you can plug into any standard USB wall adapter or power bank. This means you never have to worry about dead batteries or the hassle of recharging. It’s true “set-it-and-forget-it” security.
4. Will WinEye work with my double-paned or tinted windows?
Yes. It works perfectly with most standard windows.
5. What is the field of view? Can it see my entire porch or driveway?
WinEye features a 131.6° ultra-wide-angle lens. When placed on a window, it provides an expansive view that can easily cover an entire porch, driveway, or backyard area. Within the app, you can also set custom “Activity Zones” to ensure you only receive motion alerts for the specific areas you care about most.
6. The camera is inside my room. Is my privacy protected?
We take your privacy extremely seriously. Firstly, the camera is designed to face outwards, away from your private space. Secondly, there is no built-in audio monitor. When you want to be 100% sure the lens is blocked, just snap it on.
7. WinEye has an external microphone. Won’t closing the window on its cable damage the cable or my window’s weather seal?
The external microphone connects via our specially engineered Ultra-Flat Cable. This is not a standard round wire; it’s a paper-thin, durable ribbon cable designed to lie flat within your window frame. It allows the window to close and lock securely right over it, creating a full seal without damaging the cable or your window’s weatherstripping. You get crystal-clear outdoor audio without compromising your home’s security or insulation.
8. What is the warranty policy? What if I have a problem?
As a valued Kickstarter backer, your WinEye camera is covered by a 1-Year Comprehensive Warranty. We are committed to delivering a high-quality, reliable product. We will have a dedicated customer support channel ready to assist you with any questions or issues you may have once the campaign is complete.
9. Can I use WinEye if my HOA does not allow window-mounted devices?
WinEye mounts from the inside and does not require drilling or exterior changes. However, HOA, apartment, and building rules can vary. If your HOA or property manager does not allow anything mounted on windows, we recommend checking and following those rules before purchasing or installing WinEye.
10. Can WinEye be powered by a power bank?
Yes. WinEye can be powered by a compatible power bank, as long as the power bank provides stable output that meets the camera’s power requirements. This is useful for windows without nearby outlets, temporary setups, RVs, campers, and travel use. Actual runtime will depend on the capacity and output of the power bank, camera settings, recording mode, and network conditions.
11. Can I view WinEye when I’m away from home?
Yes. As long as WinEye is connected to the internet, you can view the live feed and access recordings remotely through the app. Remote viewing quality may depend on your home internet speed, Wi-Fi signal strength, and mobile network connection.
12. Can WinEye connect to a phone hotspot?
Yes. WinEye can connect to a compatible phone hotspot. This can be useful for RVs, campers, travel, temporary monitoring locations, or places without a traditional Wi-Fi router. If WinEye is connected to a phone hotspot, the phone providing the hotspot needs to stay within range and keep the hotspot active.
13. Where are recordings stored?
WinEye supports local storage. Recorded videos are saved on the device’s built-in storage, and users can view or download recordings through the “ShowMo” app or the web portal. This allows you to access important footage without relying only on cloud storage.
14. What happens when storage is full?
When the storage becomes full, WinEye automatically overwrites the oldest recordings with new ones. This loop-recording system helps the camera continue recording without requiring manual deletion. We recommend downloading any important footage before it is overwritten.
15. Does WinEye record continuously or only when motion is detected?
WinEye is designed to support security monitoring and event recording. Available recording modes include motion-based recording or continuous recording depending on your app settings.
16. Does WinEye support NAS, RTSP, or ONVIF?
Yes. WinEye supports ONVIF protocols, so it can stream to compatible NAS systems, NVRs, or third-party security software that supports these standards. This allows users to save a copy of the live stream alongside other compatible cameras.
17. Can I save the live stream to my NAS with my other cameras?
Yes. If your NAS or NVR system supports RTSP or ONVIF, you can add WinEye and record the stream together with your other compatible cameras. Compatibility may vary depending on your NAS model, NVR software, and network settings.
