1. What is the operationg temperature range for the camera and the base station?
The MileFlask system is designed to handle various weather conditions: the base station (indoor unit) operates reliably from -10°C to 45°C (14°F to 113°F), while the outdoor cameras are built for more extreme conditions and function from -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F), ensuring reliable performance in most climates year-round.
2. How do obstacles like dense trees, metal sheds, or metal-sided barns affect the signal range?
Obstacles can significantly reduce your wireless camera range and connection quality. Dense trees and foliage can cut your effective range by 30-60%, especially when wet, so try to position equipment above tree level or choose paths through sparse vegetation. Metal buildings like sheds, barns, or silos create near-complete signal blockage, so never install devices inside metal structures and instead mount equipment outside or route signals over rooftops. For best results, maintain clear line-of-sight between your base station and cameras – if you can’t visually see between the devices, the wireless signal will likely struggle too.
3. Can I view the live feed on multiple smartphones or share it with family members?
Absolutely! The system supports up to 5 user accounts, so you can easily share live camera access with family members. Each person can view the feed on their own smartphone or web portal.
4. Does it record 24/7 or only when motion is detected?
The cameras record only when motion is detected, not continuously 24/7. Since these are outdoor wireless cameras powered by solar energy without electrical connections, they use motion-activated recording as the default power-saving mode to ensure reliable battery life and optimal solar charging performance.
5. Will this product interfere with my existing home Wi-Fi network?
No, the MileFlask system will not interfere with your existing home Wi-Fi network. MileFlask uses the 802.11ah (HaLow) protocol operating in the Sub-1GHz frequency band around 900MHz, while standard home Wi-Fi networks operate on completely different higher frequency bands (2.4GHz/5GHz). Since these frequency spectrums are well-separated, both systems can coexist harmoniously without any interference issues.
6. How does the motion detection work? Can I adjust the sensitivity?
Yes, the motion detection system is highly customizable. You can adjust the motion detection sensitivity and configure various trigger settings and intervals through the mobile app.
7. Where are videos stored? Do I need SD cards in each camera?
No SD cards needed. All videos are automatically stored on the base station’s built-in 64GB eMMC storage, regardless of camera distance.
8. Are there any monthly subscription fees or cloud storage costs?
No monthly fees required. The base station includes 64GB built-in eMMC storage for local recording. Cloud storage is optional and available if you prefer remote backup.
9. How many cameras can connect to a single base station?
Each base station supports up to 8 cameras, allowing you to monitor multiple areas from a single hub.
10. If the signal range is not far enough, what steps can I take to improve the MileFlask connection?
To extend your MileFlask connection range, start by ensuring clear line-of-sight between the base station and cameras while avoiding large metal objects or dense trees that block signals. Install external antennas on your base station with vertical positioning, and raise the antenna height to clear ground-level obstacles like fences or vegetation. Additionally, check for interference by moving away from other wireless devices such as old cordless phones, WiFi routers, or industrial equipment that may be operating on similar frequencies and weakening your signal strength.
11. Does it support night vision? Is it color or black & white?
Yes, the cameras support night vision with flexible viewing options – you can choose between black and white or color night vision recording based on your preferences and lighting conditions.
12. Do I need professional help to install it, or can I do it myself?
You can attempt self-installation – we provide detailed step-by-step guides with illustrations and videos, installation templates, and recommended tools to help you through the process. Installation may require working at heights (such as on a ladder) or drilling into walls, so please prioritize your safety at all times. If you’re uncomfortable with this type of work or lack experience with tools and ladders, we strongly recommend hiring a professional installer to ensure both proper setup and your personal safety.
13. Can I install two MileHub base stations at the same property or nearby locations?
We do not recommend installing two base stations in close proximity to each other, as the two systems may cause signal interference with each other, which can affect overall performance and reliability. We recommend keeping a minimum distance of 500 ft (approximately 150 meters) between two base stations to avoid interference.
14. How many days of recordings can be stored? (1 camera vs 8 cameras)
Based on approximately 50 alerts per day:
1. 1 camera: ~480 days of motion detection recordings
2. 8 cameras: ~60 days of recordings before the oldest footage is overwritten
The actual storage duration varies linearly depending on alert frequency — fewer alerts means longer storage, and more alerts means shorter storage.
15. Will the system automatically overwrite the oldest recordings when storage is full?
Yes. The system uses a loop recording mechanism — once storage is full, it will automatically overwrite the oldest recordings to make room for new ones.
16. Is there a plan to support expanded storage options such as USB, SSD, NAS, Windows PC, or cloud backup?
The system currently supports local storage via ONVIF protocol-compatible devices. Stay tuned for future updates regarding additional storage expansion options.
17. Does the web interface support multi-screen layout to view all cameras simultaneously?
Yes. The web interface supports multi-device viewing. In 3-column mode, you can typically view up to 9 devices simultaneously on a standard screen by scrolling down.
18. Does the web interface support playback and searching of recorded footage?
Yes. The web interface supports video playback with filtering by event type and time. Please note that time selection is based on a daily unit (day-by-day basis).
19. Does the web interface support downloading recorded video files?
It depends on the storage type:
1. Cloud recordings: Support downloading individual event clips.
2. SD card recordings: Support recording to local storage directly, but do not support file downloading in the traditional sense.
20. Does the web interface support changing camera and system settings?
The web interface supports partial settings management. Some camera and system settings can be adjusted via the web, though full configuration is recommended through the mobile app.
21. Does the web interface support receiving alerts and notifications?
This feature is not currently supported on the web interface. Please use the mobile app to receive real-time alerts and push notifications.
22. Does the web interface offer the same features as the mobile app?
There are some differences between the two. However, core functions including live viewing, SD card playback, and cloud recording playback are essentially consistent across both the web interface and the mobile app.
23. What are the operating and storage temperatures? Has it been tested in extreme cold conditions like the Canadian Prairies (-20°C to -30°C)?
1. Operating Temperature: -20°C to +60°C (-4°F to +140°F)
2. Storage Temperature: -30°C to +70°C (-22°F to +158°F)
The camera has been officially tested at -20°C. Testing at -30°C has not yet been conducted. We recommend monitoring camera performance closely if deploying in environments that regularly drop below -20°C.
24. If the temperature drops below the operating range, will the camera go temporarily offline or suffer permanent damage?
If the ambient temperature falls below the operating range, the camera will typically enter a protective state. Common symptoms include reduced battery life, slower wake-up response, temporary offline status, or suspended charging.
As long as the following conditions are avoided, no permanent damage should occur from short-term low-temperature exposure:
1. Water ingress or ice formation inside the device
2. Forced charging below the safe charging temperature
3. Prolonged exposure beyond the storage temperature range
25. Can the battery be replaced by the user? What is the expected battery lifespan in outdoor environments?
The battery is not user-replaceable. Please note the following regarding battery performance in cold conditions:
1. In low-temperature environments, battery capacity may drop to approximately 50% of its rated capacity.
2. Charging is not supported when the ambient temperature is below 0°C (32°F), as doing so may damage the battery.
We recommend ensuring the camera is fully charged before exposure to freezing temperatures.
